Mrs. Fisher’s Southern Cooking

Recipes can tell stories. At Mrs. Fisher’s Southern Cooking, every dish reflects the life of the extraordinary Abby Fisher, first on a South Carolina plantation, and later, in Mobile, Alabama. Formerly enslaved, she was one of the first African-Americans to write a cookbook, preserving recipes that continue to bring the flavors and ingredients of the mid-nineteenth century south to life.

We have selected some of the most memorable servings of her story to share with you — capturing Abby Fisher’s 35 years of rich culinary experience. Choose from dishes like roast pork with pepper slaw, cracker crumb breaded chicken, red beans and rice, and collard greens. Then delight in a perfect ending of brandy peaches and sweet potato pie.

Outdoor service provides an immersive setting, with views of the Ackley Covered Bridge and Susquehanna Plantation.
